Safety Supervisor
Nature and Scope
The supervisor assists, and is accountable to, the loss prevention manager. The supervisor fills a support management role that is responsible for collision scene investigation & reporting and the mobile supervision of driving staff. In addition, the supervisor liaises with and assists in other departments. The primary mandate is to follow the “Journey to Zero” with measurable reductions in preventable collisions.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Employment with Southland for a minimum of 3 months
- High degree of organizational and analytical problem solving ability
- Mature and diplomatic manner
- Valid Class 2 Operator’s Licence with “S” Endorsement & a maximum of 4 demerits
- Experience as a supervisor
- Computer experience and skills in Microsoft Word & Excel
- Demonstrated knowledge of program development
- Leadership skills to act as a mentor and a strong team player
In-depth training to include the following:
- Introduction to loss prevention, reporting process, collision report forms, Alberta infrastructure
- Collision report forms-police case files, collision scene photography, gathering of information & the preservation of evidence, witness statements
- Safety Supervisor /Collision Investigation Level 1, alcohol/substance ID, operation of portable breathalyzers, operation of hand-held radar units
- WCB-(Worker’s Compensation Board) disability management course
- Monthly operation facility audits, monthly mileage reporting, monthly PIC (Partners in Compliance) reporting
- Daily school bus arrival times, ECS arrival times, PM school bus departure times for the Calgary Board of Education, attend Collision Review Committee meetings
Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Support operations on common issues specific to safety

Assess loading/unloading zones

Attend Collision Review Committee (CRC) meetings

Investigate traffic violations / Crown Prosecutor visitations

Display professional conduct in all situations and maintain confidentiality
Working Conditions The office is located in the Operations Building at 65 Highfield Place SE. Office hours are flexible and vary between 7am and 5pm Monday to Friday, however, the supervisor must be on-call 24/7 and be willing to work evenings and weekends as required. The supervisor must also be prepared to volunteer at events such as My 1st Ride, annual Roadeo, etc. The supervisor receives an annual paid vacation but takes holidays around the needs of Southland and the boards it serves.
